A Hearty Welcome to My One Reader
So, what's with the name, right? I suppose the credit goes to my niece and/or nephew, who coined the term when they had to spend some time on the stairwell in their home for naughty behavior. This stairwell is a unique one and kind of resembles a "Z" but with two exit points. When they were punished they had to sit in a dark portion of the stairwell and contemplate their actions. Obviously, the kids don't like to be sent to timeout, but to have a "dark timeout" is even worse. Thought the name was funny. Somewhat sinister, but funny nonetheless.

Very spooky, and thought-provoking, name! When I was little and misbehaving my mom would chase me into my room and switch off the light and close the door. I would instantly feel terror and jump up and turn on the light and open the door. I think fear of abandonment and angering her became intermixed with fear of the dark. To this day (night) I am afraid of being alone in the dark, and it still has a negative effect on my life.
ReplyDeleteBut, Dark Timeout is a great name for a blog. What reflections do you have as you sit, alone, in the dark, reflecting on your behavior?
